School Assessment Team (SAT)
The School Assessment Team (SAT), previously referred to as the School Based Support Team (SBST), is comprised of staff members who individually test and assess students who were referred by either parents or teachers due to concerns regarding learning or behavioral difficulties. The members of the SAT work together with the teachers and school staff to assess children’s cognitive, academic, and social-emotional strengths and weaknesses. Students who are referred for a formal evaluation are evaluated in the areas of cognitive development, academic achievement, behavior, speech-language, and fine and gross motor skills. The members of the SAT assist in examining causes of learning difficulties and assist in determining eligibility for special education services. If a child meets eligibility for special education services, the team assists in determining what services might be needed in order for the student to be successful academically. For more information regarding the special education referral process, parents are welcome to stop by Rm. 252 to speak with Dr. Krol.
